This jewellery set features a pendant and matching earrings modelled after the famous Achaemenid Persian Griffin Armlet (or Horned-Lion Griffin Armlet) from the Oxus Treasure. The original artifact dates to the 5th–4th century BCE during the Persian Achaemenid Empire and was unearthed in the late 19th century near the Oxus River (modern-day Tajikistan/Afghanistan border). Originally cast in solid gold with deep inlays once filled with vibrant colored stones and glass, the motif depicts winged, horned mythological griffin-like beasts that symbolized royal power, divine protection, and mastery over both celestial and terrestrial realms—now preserved as one of the hallmark treasures in the British Museum.
