This design is based on the Zenú (Sinú) semicircular filigree ornament (orejera en filigrana), one of the most iconic goldwork artifacts of pre-Columbian Colombia (flourishing ca. 200 BC – AD 1600 in the Caribbean lowlands. Originally worn by elite nobility and religious leaders as ear ornaments or pectorals to reflect the radiant energy of the sun, the openwork geometric arches, delicate braid details, and spiral motifs symbolized prestige, cosmic order, and sacred connections to the natural world.
