Quimbaya Bird (PC1018)

This piece is the Quimbaya Zoomorphic Bird Pendant (widely known in popular culture as the & quot; Quimbaya Airplane" or " Pájaro del Otún"). Originating from the indigenous Quimbaya civilization of the Middle Cauca River valley in present-day Colombia (dating roughly between 500 and 1000 CE), these lost-wax cast ornaments were crafted by master metalsmiths from gold or tumbaga (a gold-copper alloy) to be worn as chest pectorals and spiritual emblems by tribal elites.
