This style draws directly from the ancient goldsmithing traditions of pre-Columbian Colombia—most notably the Zenú (Sinú), Quimbaya, and Muisca civilizations, whose master metalworkers thrived between roughly 200 BCE and 1600 CE. Zenú artisans were especially renowned for their mastery of false filigree and lost-wax casting, creating intricate openwork patterns that mimicked woven textiles, while central figures—often depicting shamans, chieftains (caciques), or animal deities—represented cosmic power, transformation, and devotion to the sun.
