Solar Motif (PC1037)

Special Edition

Originating from the indigenous Zenú culture (ca. 200 BCE – 1600 CE) of the Sinú and San Jorge river valleys in northern Colombia, these semicircular ornaments are among the finest masterworks of pre-Hispanic metallurgy.

Originally worn by chiefs, priests, and elite figures as pectoral pendants, breastplates, or crescent-shaped nose ornaments (narigueras), these adornments symbolized high social status and spiritual authority.

The central radiating face represents the Sun Deity, reflecting the Zenú belief that gold embodied the sun's divine, generative power and celestial energy.

The openwork geometric netting and latticework surrounding the solar figure symbolically echoed the Zenú's famous hydraulic canal systems and fishing nets that shaped their agricultural civilization.

Today, authentic archaeological originals of this inspired reproduction are preserved in the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, remaining an enduring cultural symbol of Colombia's pre-Columbian artistic heritage.
