Originates from the ancient Zenú (Sinú) civilization, which flourished between roughly 200 BCE and 1600 CE across the Sinú and San Jorge river valleys of northern Colombia.

The radiating, semi-circular fan shape (forma de abanico) was a solar emblem representing divine energy, the sun's life-giving warmth, and cosmic balance.

Originally worn hanging from the nasal septum or ears by tribal chieftains (caciques) and shamans, serving as a powerful signifier of nobility, sacred authority, and protection.

These iconic golden silhouettes are celebrated among the finest achievements in pre-Columbian metalwork and are now often adapted into pendants, earrings, and gemstone jewellery.
