In ancient Colombia and the broader Andean zone, geometric forms like the rhombus and square symbolized cosmic balance, the four cardinal directions, and the rays of the sun. Master goldsmiths from cultures such as the Calima, Quimbaya, and Zenú specialized in repoussé and cast sheet-metal work, hammering textured gold to reflect flickering daylight and firelight during sacred ceremonies. Elite rulers and shamans wore bold dangling ear ornaments (orejeras) to signify high spiritual rank and to serve as protective amulets connecting earthly rule with the cosmos.
